What is the best G Loomis fishing rod?
Mar 22, 2007 by Meagan | Posted in Fishing
I am getting my boyfriend a G Loomis for his birthday. He does a lot of saltwater flats fishing as well freshwater bass fishing and such. I think the IMX or the Greenwater series is going to be my best bet, but I don't know which one. I don't want to ask him because that would ruin the suprise . . . PLEASE HELP me someone with fishing knowledge!!
G Loomis GLX series #BCR893 is a great crossover rod for bass and flats fishing. 7'5" MH action for Senko's but this rod has the power closer to tip for great hooksets and BIG fish. They run $370 at BassPro but I have seen them on Ebay for under $300. Can you find out from one of his fishing buddies if they think this is a good choice? Chances are they will smile ear-to-ear at the mere mention of it.

do you want the pole for saltwater or freshwater?
Freshwater...get the Mossyback in a heavy action, its one of the newer rods for about 200 bucks, great for bass fishing. If your looking for something cheaper, then go with browning rods like the Browning Medallion, which is actually on sale right now at basspro.com, originally fity, now forty. Browning has the best value rods, top quality for lower price.
Saltwater...Here, i think that you are right about the Greenwater. If thats what you want to spend, go for it.

Help, Help, Can anyone please tell me what I do wrong when catching fish?
Sep 24, 2008 by Iron Fart Warrior Mk. 2 | Posted in Fishing
Okey, so I went to the hurricane barrier in Providence because I feel I need fish to eat in this hard economic time. What I do is my neighbor lemme borrow his G-Loomis bass rod rate at max. 15 pound test. He say freshwater olny, but I did not listen to him. I buy Power Pro at market for $20 and some leurre called repela X-rap. I take off line 10 poun test from he shimano reel and put 80 pound power pro. I have on what seem to be 70 yards of line, but before was 150 yard with old line. I think to myself that I do good fish no gonna brake this line and the rod is just like any other rod but a bit lighter. When I get there I make 2 cast before something made a very big tug. I set line drag for 40 pound test. The fish pull lots of line really fast and a few minutes later, smoke came from reel and eye of the rod after the black parts of eyes fall out for some reason. Then lot of smoke came from reel and the drag was no longer work. I could then reel easy but the rod was bending crazy. 10 minutes later, the fish was tired and it was under me. When I try to lift as hard as I can up the pier with my rod, it snapped in half. Then fish fell back in and went for rocks and line was cut. I say to myself, "Oh, man, he gonna kill me now." What should I do. Please help me. Why did I lose fish and what went wrong. A guy who was there say it was a bluefish longer than 3 feet an 15 pounds. He told me that I need stronger rod to fish here. He also tell me that I look like I have no experience fishing. Fishing expert, please tell me what I do wrong in this situation. Also when my neighbor asks for his rod, what do I do? Should I lie to him and say I was robbed. I don't want to lose new friend over something I have done.
first thing first you owe him a new rod and reel. he warned you about it and you didn't listen. while you are at the store getting him a new rod buy yourself an heavy action rod and reel.

He told you the limits on the rod and reel and you "GREATLY" exceed them!!! as well as used a fresh water rig in salt water.
First you should have told him you where going to be fishing in salt water and he might have had a rig that would have worked.
If you had used power pro 14 or less you would have been ok...but now you have fried (burned up the drag and probably some bearings) as well I imagine grooved the eyes on the rod.
Take it back to him, explain what you did and be truthful about it. Ask him to see what it will take to repair the rod and reel if "POSSIBLE" and "TELL" him you will pay for the repairs....and make sure you do!!!!
Do this and you will keep him as a friend don't and you will lose him as a friend and no telling who else he will tell.
Be truthful and straight with him and everything will be fine....BUT don't be surprised if he gets pissed.
If they can not be fixed be ready with a min. of $300
Depending on what model G Loomis they can run up to $300 ( which I doubt he loaned you) and Shimano Reels can run upwards of $300+ depending on the Model.
Hope you learned your expensive lesson....now be a man and own up to it.

firstly, you shouldn't have bough such heavy line for a small fresh water rod, the line should snap before the fishing rod does! im guessing when you reeled in the fish you wound in way to much line and as the fish tried to make a last run the pressure on the rod was extremely high which caused it to break. my advice would be to go buy your mate a new freshwater combo, and buy yourself a heavy game rod with 80-100 pound line set your drag at a quarter of the breaking stregth of the line! this is crucial because if you set the drag to come out at more than a third it will more likely snap! this happens because the strain on the line varies at different parts of the rod and at different parts while its under water so set the drag at a 1/4 or no more than a 1/3
Good luck with your next fishing adventure

Golden gets my vote! Thumbs up!
Just a side note- Some G-loomis rods have a lifetime warranty. Def return the rod to your friend; maybe he can salvage this situation by returning it and getting a new one. G-loomis rods START at $275!

From what i read, you did NOTHING wrong in catching fish, because you DIDN'T catch 1.
What you DID do wrong, was that after a friend LOANED you a rod & reel & told you that it was to be used in Freshwater ONLY, You VIOLATED that friendship, by ignoring this friend.
Not only did you NOT catch a fish, but NOW, you NEED to replace this friends rod & reel.
If it was me, that loaned this fishing tackle to you & AFTER you replaced the destroyed tackle, I would NEVER loan you anything again

What are your opinions on the Bass Pro Shops Crankin Rod series?
Feb 10, 2008 by Bass Catcher | Posted in Fishing
I know they are about $60.00. I am looking for a crankbait rod, MH, 6'6".
G-Loomis has a cranckbait stick for about $90 and Falcon's runs about the same.
I want a good stick, but don't want to spend more than I have to. Am I better off going with G-Loomis or Falcon?
KVD uses a Quantum® Gerald Swindle Tour Edition® PT™ Signature Series Rod PTC745FGS Med./Hvy. for cranking Strike King Sexy Shad and it seems to work for him. It also makes a fine worm/jig rod with enough backbone for flipping. About $180 at basspro.
Take a look here:
G Loomis
Kistler
Everyone is building a good crankbait rod. It comes down to personal taste and warranty. Both Loomis and Falcon (and the others I listed) are excellent in all regards.
Just don't go and buy a Ugly Stick!!!

You also have a neighbor over in Claremore, OK that custom builds rods that I highly recommend. Contact Larry Mitchell
He will make whatever you like. His rods are around $125.
