How can i fix my zebco 33 authenic series reel to where it reels only when it retrieves the line not where you

When i reel it line retrives but when i reel it backwords it descends the line?
On the side of the reel is a small protrusion that rotates back and forth.,move it left or right until the spool is engaged and the handle will not turn backwards.

Sounds like you need an anti reverse part. It'll run ya about a buck 20 or so. Check the link.
You can buy any part for just about any reel here.

Like dirtydan2 pointed out the Zebco 33 has an anti-reverse switch on it that engages ~ click it so it's in the correct position ie., reel handle turns clockwise for reeling line in ;)...

I would trash it and buy an open-faced spinning reel as it will be easier to cast and maintain.

zebco reels quality?
May 24, 2007 by freaky | Posted in Fishing
i was looking at alot of reels at alot of places at spincast reels.the zebco 888 and the zebco 606.they both had 20-25 pound test on them.any body have any experiance on them.or witch is better.and i will be catching bass or any other fish that gets on the line.
I've seen the 606 bring in allot of heavy crap.
They are not the smoothest, toughest reel available but are not junk & thier price reflects thier quailty.

Don't use closed face spin-cast reels, however I can attest to the fact that Zebco is about the best, one can get...

Good answers above, all I have to say about them is they dont make them like they used to . I used to be a Zebco 33 man . I caught fairly large fish on them 20+pound catfish and 30+pound carp.
I never fished with the 606 much but I know people that fish carp tournaments with them and catch big carp

I know everyone is gonna "freak" when I say this but I don't think any Zebco spincast reel today could beat out a Daiwa Goldcast Spincaster.
I know reels VERY well, and for durability (in SALT or freshwater), ease of use, action, and construction, the Daiwa Goldcast has every spincaster BEAT! Of course, the price does reflect this, ($49.95-$55.00).
But if you REALLY want a spincaster that will perform year after year, look into a Daiwa Goldcast or Goldcast 3.
I bought my wife one over 10 years ago and it still works flawlessly, (even after 3 children learned to fish with it! IE: dropped, reeled against drag, left in mud, dropped, dropped dropped! lol). If you want the "best", investigate the Goldcast.
I will give kudos to the "metal" '33 though. It was THE spincaster for 20 years! Shame they don't make them like that anymore.
PS: If you MUST go with Zebco get the "Omega". From what I understand, it is 1 of THE best spinners around. However, it seems more of a total freshwater reel than a salt/fresh reel.
Good luck!

zebco is junk. buy a baitcaster or a spinning reel and learn how to use it. dont waste money on crap.

some times but most of the cheap newer ones arent that durable unless u barely use them and take care of them

I would have to agree with the general consensus that Zebco is no longer the leader in Spincast technology. Not only that, but their Customer Support leaves a lot to be desired!
I've used Zebco Spincast Reels for over 20 years. For the kind of fishing we do, they just work. I can't tell you how many times I've been reeling in a nice Brook Trout while my "Spinning Reel" buddies were sorting out a ball of knotted line. The Spinning Reels might be fine in a Lake somewhere, but they don’t cut it in the Bush.
Recently I purchased a Zebco Omega. Nice Reel, but I had some technical questions for the Company. Sent them an Email only to get the reply "the reel should work for that application" ??? Not the response I was hoping for. LOL! I sent them a polite reply asking if someone with some technical knowledge on the reel could get back to me. Then I got... "The reel will work for that application” and that was it. If you want customer service... I wouldn’t recommend Zebco. As it turned out, the reel didn't come in time for our annual Spring Fishing Trip so I picked up a low profile Zebco unit. Can't remember the name of it... Pro Staff Model something or other... What a hunk of junk! Face didn't thread on nicely, the reel made more noise than any $2.00 Shakespeare and the drag was crap. I tossed it in the trash the first night and none of the boys went after it!
I've recently been doing some reading on the Daiwa Goldcast III and think that will be my next reel. I'll be in Winnipeg on Monday and am planning to make a trip to Wholesale Sports to pick one up. No more Zebco loyalty for me.
Just my two cents!

how can i get zebco reels warrantied?

Back in the day we use to mail them the spool cover and they would send you a new reel. The good old days are gone!! A good sporting goods store will take them and have them exchanged if you buy there often. Other than that check the web site.
