Is redington a good fly reel brand?

I agree with Airflow to a degree......

Redington is OWNED by Sage. Of course, Sage would be a better reel to a point. If you're talking abour an entry level fly reel, it wouldn't make much of a difference.

Depending upon how much cash you want to spend, I would argue
that a Bauer or a Galvan is your best bang for the buck in the $300
world of fly reels

Under $200 it would be hard to argue with a Ross Cimmaron,

Under $150 I would hands down say an Orvis Mid-Arbor

Under $100 I would no doubt say a Cabela's Prestige Plus. I use this reel on occasion for Salmon and Steelhead with no problems at all.

Out of the two, Sage 100%!!!!!

The drags are a lot better quality than Redington and the reels are generally made out of better materials, however this shows in the cost, Sage, will cost a lot more than Redington, but will last longer.

my dad was a machinist at abel reels for five years (l just HAD to tell someone that). those are the ultimate fly reel. even the lower priced models are great reels. if you consider $200+ low priced.

one thing to remember is a fly reel mainly holds line, I put more money into my rods and line than reels. you could fish an Sth or okuma reel for way less. both have decent disc drags(disc drag is a must!!!) and I've landed some toads with both brands and haven't had any trouble.
