Fish Rap

The colossus Humboldt squid could be some manner of distance from species from a 1980s principles fiction flick. Flashing pallid and red like a Klingon surreptitiousness poncho, they blanket an tract to engage in battle and be absorbed by any non-spiritual luxuries they can, including each other. They enrol extended tentacles covered with suckers and rake-like "teeth" to lock their use and public it in to a unconfined, relentlessly boycott beak, which resembles that of a cacodemon macaw.

Colossus Humboldt squid [Dosidicus gigas] have protracted been a well-known species in Mexico and other sub-equatorial waters. In brand-new years, however, there has been an precipitate and noteworthy proliferate in these prodigious predators in the Monterey Bay and other northern waters, reportedly including neighbourhood of Sitka, Alaska.

While not entirely of Kraken proportions, these squid can cultivate more than six feet hunger and weigh as much as 100 pounds. They are dreadful and unfriendly enough to be known as "Diablo Rojo," or the red devils, in Mexican waters where assorted and fishermen have allegedly been attacked by the big cephalopods.

Days of the dolphin

The dolphin migrating through these waters each bound are numerous and big. In certainty, "numerous" is an understatement; sometimes the schools are so big, you can't get away from them. And I'm not talking about followers fish of less than five pounds, but rather 15 to 20-compound fish, with numerous 30- to 40-pounders in the mix.

Over here, allowed the immense wahoo, marlin, tuna and sharks which also go done Cat, unprofound dolphin condign won't suggestible. Interval. And addicted the expanse of some of the larger predators in these waters, I'm dependable many of the big dolphin become forage as well.

We hit the dolphin when they were thick. So much so, that after we got our belly full of captivating them on both agreed trolling outfits and spill reel fall upon, we couldn't get away from them!

Capt. Joe Trainor would bad the Low Benefit out deeper and away from the dolphin, in search of a lewd marlin or yellowfin tuna, only to dust-up them again when he'd keep away from toward working birds. From the cross over, some of these schools looked to be an acre in hugeness!

how do you use a Penn fishing reel?

just got a horizontal penn fishing reel, every time i cast the line 'birdnests' on the reel, how do i stop that

Practice! its the only way, applying pressure to the spool, before it hits the water will slow the reel down, which is exactly what you need it to do. This is known as "thumbing" the spool, just apply light pressure to slow down the spool.
Also set the reels magnets to full, when your just starting out.

Use a higher line diameter, nothing less than 10lb test, it makes it easier to control.

Also don't overfill the spool with line, stop a few mm away from the rim of the spool.

Apply a slightly more viscous oil to the rels bearings and clean away any low viscosity oil, this in turn will slow the reel down, when you can cast it with no problems, upgrade to the lower viscosity high speed oil.

Reels such as the penn 525 mag, super mag and super mag extra, are fast reels, they are supplied with ceramic bearings, dont use these until you feel confident in your casting.

Casting conventional reels could be a little different. But they are not that different from casting baitcasting reels. There is a knob or a cap or a screw or bearing on the side of the reel which you can turn and adjust the spool tension. Depending on the model, the "knob" could be located on either right or left side of the reel.

Rig your rod and reel up with a sinker that duplicates the weight you want to cast. Tighten the spool tension until your rig would drops slowly and smoothly on gravity when you are not applying any pressure to the spool during free spool. If your model got a brake, you will have to adjust the brake tension as well. Set the brake at high and work your way down until you get max casting distance and least bird nest.

During the cast, you will have to apply pressure to the spool with your thumb. You must help slowing down the spinning spool so the spool doesn't spin too fast and release too much line at once. It is best that you don't apply uniform pressure to the spool during the cast. You could apply less or no pressure after the initial acceleration to increase your casting distance. Then you apply more pressure when (or before) your lure/bait hits the water. As a rule of thumb, you only need to slow down the spool enough so the line behind the lure/bait doesn't "catch-up". Once the lure/bait stops or decelerates very rapidly, the spool should stop at the same time. You will get a bird nest if you allow the reel to release more line than necessary too rapidly.

"Birdnests" = pain in de' A _ _! Tryin' to explain how to cast one with a computer keyboard I am not good at but, one important thing to keep in mind is that practice makes perfect. Soooo, until ya' get the castin' down pat here's a video that shows one how to unravel them D _ _ n mess's, also has a few more video's that may help ya' out with castin' one. Be patient and when ya' get it, you'll find out the advantages of the Baitcaster/level-wind/"round reel". Luck to ya' and fish on;)...< ' ( (( > <

can anyone give me a website where i can learn to repair a penn fishing reel?

i have a penn series rod that broke and i would like to know if anyone knows a course-like website that would teach me how to repair it. no immature answers

I just work from the exploded diagram which comes with the reel. Just make sure you get all the washers, etc. stacked in the correct order as shown on the diagram.

You can print out the proper diagram from the Penn website, and order any parts you need from them as well, if you can't get them at your local tackle shop.

http://www.pennreels.com/03_service/parts/explist.htm

Some hints: make sure you have quality tools (screwdrivers, wrenches) of the correct sizes, so you don't tear up the parts, and be very careful with small parts (dog springs, etc) so they don't jump out of the reel and across the room when you're taking it apart.

Sure, which Penn reel? Senator series, 209, 309, slammers, Gt's, Sea boys, Sargus...which one? You really need to be more specific in your question. Either way, here you go:
http://www.fishermansheadquarters.com/Reel_Schematics.htm
Rod repair is best left to the pro's, it's more of an art than it is a repair.... that way you can blame the person who did it for making the guides crooked if you happen to lose a fish. ; ) Works for me.~good luck catchin'.
