Bad Berkley Trilene Maxx fishing line?
May 09, 2008 by mcbass2 | Posted in Fishing
I just bought 2 spools of this new line and put it on several of my fishing reels. It is the WORST stuff I have ever used. It breaks so easy and I have lost several lures & fish. I emailed Berkley and if I send in the unused spool they will give me a new spool IF I do everything right when I mail it in.
Rain on that company from here on.
I will be looking for a new company & line.
Just an FYI.
Ive used Berkley maxx and its not been that bad for me, Ive used lots of different lines in my time and its definitely not the worst line, maybe yours is defective line, but each angler has their favorites, i generally use sufix lines, they are tough and supple co-polymer lines.

I've used nothing but PowerPro Spectra for the last 2 years with GREAT results, After it softens after a few soakings it cast wonderfully.
I actually do have some Berkley Fireline Spectra, I'll see how it compares?

I use Trilene XT (Extra Tough) 8lb. in the color of green... its a really hardy line... note thet braided lines break if one strand is broken... thats why i use one strip not braided.

I agree with PJ, Trilene XT is all I use on my baitcasters. I have never had problems with it. I use Trilene XL on my spinning reels, it's great too. I heard about people having issues with Trilene Maxx, but I have never tried it. Give some XT a try, you won't be disappointed.

With any line you need to check for nix in the line from time to time during the fishing day. Plus remember to retie often. If you are not doing these things it will not matter because you will have problems with any line you use.

I bought an 8lb spool when it first came out and hated it. I had the same problems as you.

Can you use braided line on a Zebco 808 or 606?
Dec 27, 2008 by john g | Posted in Hunting
I have a zebco 606 bowfishing reel, and was wondering if i could spool it with either Power Pro or Berkley Gorilla Tough braided line. I have always heard that a spin cast reel had to have mono line.
Thanks.
Are you planning on hunting with fishing gear? You might want to ask this question in the proper fishing forum. *wink

I don't know what the gripe is with fishing on a hunting fforum!
They let all the wanna be guns (airsoft) blast away all day long anad don't say a thing.
I would not use braided line in a reel that is not made for it. The braid can be very abrasive and wear out the reel.
I fish with spider wire and the reel and rod ferrules are made of a special alloy that can take the abrasion effect of the line.
If it is free flowing (the reel) then go with it.
