What are the top quality brands for deep sea fishing equipment?
Jun 08, 2008 by Fat Gross Hog | Posted in Fishing
My dad loves deep sea fishing, so I want to get him one of the best rods/reels for Father's Day, but I don't know the sport very well. What are some of the best rods and reels on the market right now, and where can I go to get a good deal on them? Thanks all.
I've always used Penn, This is well built, quality gear and will last forever if cared for properly. Penn gear is available at most of your better sporting stores or you can purchase through their website.

Penn really is the bargain first time beginner stuff, especially their Jigmaster 500's.

What are some great brands of fishing poles that I could purchase on-line or at a store???

I don't want to spend to much,so where could I look for a good but not great fishing pole. Thanks for your help...
Honestly if you are planning on fishing for a while I suggest you spend the money for a good rod, there are too many to list above the $50 price tag.
I can only assume you are talking about keeping the price below $50. The Uglystik is a good name brand and comes in several weights and lengths and 1 or 2 piece rods.
Tournament Choice is a little better for about the same price.
Occasionally you can find All-Star Rods under $50.
Rhino Rods are OK for about 25 - 35.
All of the above mentioned rods can be purchased at Academy Sporting Goods.

For the money nothing beats an ugly stik but cabellas has their own version called a whoop.N. stik that is pretty good too. and it is cheaper and I recommend Penn reels not too expensive and about 50 to sixty dollars but they last for Long time and are worth the investment. you wouldn't want to lose that fish of a lifetime because your fishing gear couldn't not handle the job and you never no what you hook into

I have always liked the Zebco Rhino Rods, you can but the poles individually or a combo, usually with a Zebco 33 reel. You will be able to find these at any sporting goods store. Wal-Mart carries them. We have caught everything from bluegill to carp and pike on these.
